Bio of Svend White

An active member of the Islamic community of Washington, DC, Svend White (svend.white@islam-democracy.org) is an Internet consultant specializing in Information & Communications Technology for Economic Deveopment (ICT4D) and multi-lingual software development.

Svend has written a number of articles on Islam, Muslims and American politics, the most recent of which have appeared in CSID's newsletter Muslim Democrat, OpenDemocracy.net and MuslimWakeup.com.   He has participated in a number of interfaith initiatives and events, and it particularly interested in Muslim-Jewish dialogue.

Though of a non-traditional background, Mr. White was raised Muslim.  His father, Barry, embraced Islam in 1957 and his mother, Jette, became Muslim in Copenhagen in 1970.  Thanks to a mutual friend, they became pen pals and married soon thereafter, settling in Boston, where Svend was born in 1972.

Before getting into the Internet technology field, White worked as a freelance translator and journalist.

Mr. White lives in Washington DC area with his wife, Shabana Mir.

Svend White is the former Secretary of the CSID Executive Committee (10/1999-7/2004) and the CSID webmaster.
