About the Speaker:
Dr. Fukuyama is Bernard Schwarz Professor of International Political Economy, Paul H.Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University. In 2005 he will become the Director of SAIS's International Development program.

His book, The End of History and the Last Man(1999) has appeared in twenty foreign editions and has won many international prizes. He is the author of three other widely acclaimed books. His most recent is State Building: Governance and Order in the 21rst Century (2004).

In the 1980s and 90s he held various positions in the U.S. State Department largely concerned with the Middle East in Policy Planning and also in Arab-Israeli negotiations.

He is a member of the President's Council on Bioethics and is the member of the advisory boards of The National Interest, The Journal of Democracy and The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), where he has the responsibility for the oversight of Middle East programs.
